I have talked about the Professional Photographers of Canada and the Professional Photographers of Ontario before, here, on my blog. Not only am I an active member, but I am also an accredited member in several categories (a blog post coming soon about this), an active speaker and educator for the PPOC and PPOC-Ontario, and an active board-member for the Hamilton/Niagara branch of the PPOC-Ontario.

On Monday, we had our PPOC-Ontario Hamilton/Niagara Photo-Safari, where we got together for a fun morning at Balls Falls, photographing some models, having a BBQ and socializing.

Lauren and Mike: It's Love!

Lauren and Mike are tying the knot next year, and will be having their ceremony at Our Lady of the Scapular and their reception at Club Italia in Niagara Falls.

They are such a cute couple together, and a blast to hang out with. They wanted "fun, candid and laid-back" for their engagement session, and they did a fabulous job planning it to a T.

We started off at a cute little cafe in Niagara Falls, and although the owner ended up not being entirely pleased that we wanted to photographer in her cafe, we ended up getting one or two images that we were happy with. After that, we drove to the Botanical Gardens in Niagara Falls, and got some great photographs with Mike's cousin, Anthony's vespa (from the 50's, right form Italy). We dodged the rain, here and there, and ended up by Queenston for a few more photographs before it got too dark.

Ben and Tamara: It's Devotion!

Ben and Tamara's wedding was held at Legends on the Niagara, in Chippawa. It was a beautiful day and timelines worked out to be perfect.

Ben and Tamara, like many of our couples, opted to see each other before the ceremony. This allowed for much more time for photography, less stressing and rushing for the portrait-section of the photography, and it allowed Ben and Tamara to really enjoy that "first sighting".

Emily: It's Chic!

I have had the opportunity to mentor a local photography-college student, Jennie Rorison, several times throughout the summer. Jennie is going to school hoping to further her education in photography and one day become a full-time professional photographer.

Last week, Jennie and I went out with the oh-so-gorgeous Emily Jansen for some photo-tips, lessons and one-on-one critiquing. We had a great time and Jennie learned a heap-loads!

What a fun week this has been! We are nearing the end of our Studio Addition (be sure to check back here for more progress photographs, soon), and we are at the point where our contractors step aside and let us do the finishing touches. We taking care of painting, flooring, fixtures, electrical, trim, baseboards, doors, furniture, and other "fun" tasks like that. It goes without saying that we have had one busy week!

Last weekend, we drove up to Pickering to spend the day with Amy and Kerry, their family and friends. Amy and Kerry's wedding was very special and unique because it was held, entirely, at Amy's family cottage on Lake Ontario.

The cottage was beautiful decorated, the landscaping was perfectly manicured, and the meal and the service was second-to-none.

Amy's father, Steven Holmes, is the CEO of Springfree Trampoline (you know, the trampolines that they carry in COSTCO), and so he made sure that every little detail was taken care of for Amy and Kerry on their special day.

Thank you, Amy and Kerry, for allowing us to spend your special day with us, and thank you to your family and friends for making us feel "at home"! Enjoy some of my favourite photographs, below!

Like many of our couples, Amy and Kerry opted to see each other before the ceremony. This allows for much more time for photographs, and a much more relaxed photographing environment. The best part of all is that after the ceremony, you can enjoy the cocktails with your guests!

You can't be the daughter of the CEO of a world-reknown trampoline company and NOT get some wedding photographs taken on the trampoline, right?

Michelle and Matt: It's Devotion!

The wedding day is an enjoyable celebration of a couple's love for each other, and it symbolizes the union of two families. Aside from taking great photographs, one of the most important thing for us is that we provide a positive experience for our couples, their families and their wedding party on their wedding day. We not only want to partake in the FUN of the wedding day, but we want to contribute to it!

As a wedding photographer, we are typically with our bride and/or groom for almost the entire wedding day. We are almost like a wedding planner in a way, helping with details, giving advice, and often even pinning the boutonnieres on the groomsmen. This is exactly why the experience that we provide and the environment that we help create on the wedding day is so important.

Two words can describe the type of experience that we always provide for our couples - fun and relaxed.

This holds true for Michelle and Matt. We had a GREAT time at their wedding this past weekend. Michelle and Matt are totally in love with photographs and when our couples love it as much as we do, it makes our job that much easier. From getting all of the details set out in order for us, to giving us lots of time for photographing the two of them, Michelle and Matt ran a tight and organized ship, photography-wise!

Tara and Dave: It's Love!

They first met in Port Dalhousie, when Dave was working the local pizza joint. We thought that it was only appropriate to visit the spots that they had been to many times, as two young'ns in love, and re-create some of that magic.

One of the greatest privileges that I have as a photographer is the opportunity to meet and hang out with so many amazing and unique couples and families.

The process of hiring a professional photographer (as I learned) is a difficult, emotional and very personal decision. There are many factors that go into choosing a professional photographer for your family portrait, engagement portraits, wedding, and so on.

Most of the time, our couples and families see our work online, or see their friend's portraits hanging on their wall, and fall in love with our style before they get in touch with us. Our style can be defined with the following 4 words - fun, relaxed, romantic and dramatic. We always stick to this, and our branding, experience and imagery all reflect it.

While everyone loves the core of our style, every couple and every family likes to put their own twist on it. Everyone has a different idea as to exactly what they'd like from their portraits, and what emotions they want them to portray.

Daniela and Mark have been dating for about 3 years now, and while they are not engaged or planning a wedding, they wanted some really nice portraits of the two of them together. They didn't want the "lovey-dovey, engagement style portraits", however, they wanted more "fun, light-hearted portraits". Like I previously mentioned, while my style is traditionally more on the romantic-side, as a photographer and an artist, I am able to adapt my style and my approach to suit that of the couple. And I think we did that perfectly for Daniela and Mark!

Studio Addition Progress - Part 3

It's studio update time! It's been a while since I've posted images here on my blog, as I've kind of been busy getting married and all.

Things are moving along VERY nicely. Since we last chatted ...

- Framing is all done
- Soffit and Fascia is all done
- Plumbing and heating is done
- Insulation is done
- Electrical is all done

They are now working on drywalling. Our drywall has informed us that by Thursday all of the drywall will be up, and by next Tuesday, we will be ready to paint. Wow ... I can't believe how quickly these boys are working for us!

Here are a few photos for you to see. The stairs that you see in these photos are only temporary stairs that Nick installed while we wait for our custom oak staircase and railing to come in.

Renee and Bobby: It's Devotion!

If I had to choose three words to describe Renee and Bobby's wedding, those words would be fun, laid back and well planned.

It was fun because of Renee and Bobby's great sense of humour, amazingly hilarious wedding party, and their outgoing, dance-a-holic guests.

It was laid back because Renee and Bobby were completely and entirely relaxed throughout the whole day. There was no stress, no anxiousness and no rushing. This was largely in part due to the fact that they decided to see each other before the ceremony, have their portraits taken before the ceremony, and then relax and enjoy the cocktails with their guests between the ceremony and reception.

It was well-planned not only because they are incredibly organized and detailed, but also because they hired the amazing Tara Santo from Planned to a T as their wedding planner, who did an beautiful job hiring the best wedding professionals, orchestrating the flow of the day, decorating the hall, and taking care of other little details throughout the way.

So there you have it, Renee and Bobby's day in three words (in my opinion, at least). Now, I present to you ... Renee and Bobby's wedding in images.

Whenever we have a couple see each other before the ceremony, we always stage the first sighting. That moment is one that is so special, deeply emotional and very personal. We always make a big deal out of it to make sure that the bride and groom can still have their WOW out of seeing each other for the first time.

Last week, we met up with the Sacco family at their beautiful cottage in Port Colborne for some family portraits. This is a great time of the year to think about family portraits; summer is coming to a close, the kids will be back in school again soon with some maybe even leaving for far away (University). The weather is perfect - not too hot, not too cold, and the twilight that we have been having around sunset time has never been better!

Mercedes: It's Fun!

What is the first thing that comes to your mind when I say "Senior Portraits"? If you are Canadian, you are likely thinking "Pictures of my Grandparents", aren't you?

In the United States, every single Grade-12 (Senior-Year) student has a "Senior Portrait Session", where they have a session with their choice of photographer, outside of school hours, and create amazing images and portraits that unique portray their personality and talents.

Doesn't that sound more like the grad portrait that you would want? Something that is unique, fun, and exciting, as opposed to cookie-cutter, dull and boring?

I got together with Mercedes last week for a portrait session with her horse, Val. They share an amazing connection together, and while Val wasn't totally comfortable with me yet, we created some amazing images together!

Mercedes's Mom and Dad run "Forest Green Creations", here in Fonthill. You likely remember Todd from my Portraits of Pelham session. This a great, Fonthill-based family, and they are lovely people.

We're back in the studio now, as Mr. and Mrs. Caporicci!

We had an amazing wedding day, and have so many thank-yous to send out to our family, friends, and professionals who helped make our dream wedding day a reality. We are going to dedicate a few blog posts in the next couple of weeks towards just that.

For now, though, we are back in the studio, happily married, nicely relaxed, and taking care of a laundry list of e-mails, phone calls and correspondence. To top it off, our studio-addition is well on it's way, and should be finalized in the coming month. We're very excited about that!

Studio Addition - Progress Part 1

We have been running our business, the studio, offices, meeting space and so on, all out of the house that we purchased last August, here in Fonthill. When we purchased our house, we knew that when it came time to move in (when we get married) that we would need to build an addition to house the studio, meeting space, office space, and so on, for Bryan Caporicci Photography.

Well, that time has come, and after a long series of events and set-backs, that transition is now happening. We have officially received our permit and are moving ahead, full-force, with the addition; the new home for Bryan Caporicci Photography. We couldn't be more excited!

We thought that it might be interesting and informative to keep everyone updated with the progress as we move forward with the studio.

This addition to our home in Fonthill is a dream-come-true. We will have the ideal work-from-home situation, where we won't have to drive to a studio, but at the same time, we will have a completely separate building to work, meet, and shoot in. The addition is going to be a 1500 square-foot, 2-storey building attached to the west-side of our house, complete with a separate entrance.

Here is a front elevation sketch of the addition and our house. The part on the left is the addition, and the part on the right is our existing dwelling.

Some fun techincal/mechanical terms/drawings. Fun stuff! Thanks goodness we have a great contractor!

Here is the first step - tearing off the existing siding and deck.

This tree was completely rotted, had no branches left, and was right in our way. Here's my Dad working on cutting it down.

This is one of the trees in the front of our house. While we LOVE this tree, it was in the way of our dream-studio, so it had to go. Our contractor, Nick, took care of this tree. It was way too high for our comfort.

If you look close, you can see Nick up there in the tree.

There's Paul, one of Nick's #!@$#, lugging away the tree branches.

All the brances are gone and the tree is about to go ...

Now it's gone. It's bitter sweet, really.

Alyssa and Shawn: It's Devotion!

This past weekend, we photographed the wedding of Alyssa and Shawn in Burlington, Ontario. It was an incredibly unique and special wedding for Alyssa and Shawn. The ceremony was held in their favourite spot in the forest, and even though it was pouring rain, it was intimate and beautiful.

Al and I got together with the lovely Hannah and Matt last evening for their maternity portrait session. Hannah is a very talented wedding stationary designer in the Niagara Region, and her company name is "Her Invites".

Tammy and Alvin: It's Love!

When we plan out our engagement and portrait sessions with our couples, we go over all of the details, their needs/wants and what they like/don't like. Here are our 5 steps to the perfect session:

1) Give us a good idea as to the "mood" that you would like for your images - Do you like romantic images in the tall grass? Nature? Waterfalls? Urban? Grunge?
2) Provide suggestions for locations, quoting our previous sessions (from our blog), and leave specifics up to our creative freedom
3) Plan your outfits from head-to-toe
4) Be okay with smooching and being all cute with your sweetheart in front of the camera
5) Be ready to LAUGH and have some fun!

Tammy and Alvin pass all of these "criteria" with flying colours. They had what we call a "textbook session".

1) They told us that they wanted "different, grungy" and then "tall long grass, beautiful sunset"
2) They suggested a location that they had seen on our blog, but then said "the rest is up to you"
3) They had 3 color-coordinating outfits planned, along with accessories. Tammy even did her toe-nails to match (she took the "head-to-toe" thing literally - perfect!).
4) and 5) I think that the following images show that they are both a) totally in love and b) a total blast to hang out with!

Faisal and Susan: It's Devotion!

One of the greatest advantages to being a wedding photographer is that we are always given opportunities to experience different culture, family dynamics and traditions. We are honoured to be welcomed in to our couples' families and friends with open arms, and we are privileged to be able to document their special day and create images that will be very dear to them for years to come.

Last Sunday, we had the opportunity to experience our first Sikh wedding, with Faisal and Susan. We had done a great deal of research, and were well-educated from Faisal and Susan as to what we should expect, but nothing could have prepared us better than the real thing. It was such a unique day for Al and I - a completely new culture that, previously, was foreign to us. The traditions, the language, the colours, the dynamics, the logistics, everything was new. It was a wonderful experience, and we are looking forward to photographing more East-Indian events in the future.

They say a picture tells a thousand words, so instead of trying to explain how breathtakingly beautiful the day was, simply enjoy some of our favourite images.

Speaking for the Professional Photographers of Ontario - Western Ontario Branch

I have talked on numerous occasions about my role in the photographic industry as an educator and an instructor, not only to up-and-coming photographers, but also to my fellow professional photographers. Robert Nowell and I have our own business, EnlightenMe, where we focus on one-on-one consultations with professional photographers, online tutorials, seminars and workshops. Our portfolio of speaking engagements and topics-of-speciality are ever-growing, and we are so appreciative and excited about all of the opportunities that we have had and continue to have.

We spoke, yesterday, on the topic of "Album Design" to the Western-Ontario Branch of the Professional Photographers of Ontario. Here is a quick testimonial that the Chairperson, Gilles Sweet-Boulay (LPPO) sent us:

Easy Peasy…This phrase pretty much sums up what the job of album design can be. A big thank you goes out to Bryan Caporicci and Robert Nowell for their awesome seminar presented to the PPO Western Ontario Branch. It was amazing how much information they packed into their 3 hour seminar. They touched on workflow, proofing and pricing. They even simplified Adobe's inDesign. No need to take a night course to learn this program. In about 30 minutes, Bryan showed us everything one needs to know to create great layouts using InDesign. They also shared with us 4 easy-to-remember design rules to make albums look professional without taking up a lot of your time. We got to see some of their beautiful photographs and they shared with us 15 photo ideas that can easily translate into 15 spreads in an album. This was a great program for anyone who feels anxious about designing an album or who want to increase profits by selling more pages in their album. I'd recommend these speakers to anyone. Well done guys!

As many of you may know, Al and I are tying the knot in only a few short weeks, on July 10th. As the day gets closer and closer, we get more and more excited for this big step in our lives.

In order to make our special day that much more special, and not be working right up until our wedding, we have made a personal and professional decision to take the week before our wedding off. We want to have time to rest, relax, enjoy each other's company, and finish off all of the last-minute details before the big day. We will also be honeymooning immediately following the wedding, and will not be back in the studio until the last week in July. We will therefore be, for the most part, unavailable for appointments and portrait sessions during the month of July.

To make it more convenient for our clients and couples, we have set aside a number of days in the next two weeks and the weeks following our honeymoon, for appointments and portrait sessions, that are outside of regular business hours. These dates and time spots are:

Amy and Eric: It's Devotion!

Saturday, we spent the day with Amy and Eric and their family and friends. For the fourth weekend in a row, it was forecasting rain, but the weatherman was wrong again and we got beautiful weather with a very welcomed breeze.

Isn't Amy drop-dead gorgeous?

Amy and Eric held their ceremony at Montebellow Park in St. Catharines, under the pavillion. It was a great ceremony location!

It was breezy for most of the day, with VERY strong gusts every now and then. We got a few cute and fun images out of that ... hehe.

What made Amy and Eric's wedding even better was that two of our past couples were there - Adam and Julie and Karen and Pat. They were all dancing on the dance floor, so we took the opportunity to get 'em in the background of our "self-portrait"

Meghan and Allen: It's Devotion!

Where do I even start with Meghan and Allen? They are fun, relaxed, beautiful, smart and totally in love. They are the kind of couple that you can't help but fall in love with. Al and I really connected with them and we had a really wonderful time with their families on Saturday.

Meghan and Allen booked our "Fusion" package, which includes a fusion piece. We cannot wait to share that with everyone! For the time being, however, please enjoy a few of our favourite images from their wedding day.

When we sit down to plan our engagement sessions out with our couples, we always encourage them to make it "fun, personal and unique". It's one of the things that a lot of our couples really love that we do - incorporate THEM into their sessions.

Maybe you have a coffee shop that you love to go to together; let's go there for some fun engagement portraits! Maybe you have a dog that you "parent" together; let's bring him out with your engagement portraits! Maybe you have a boat in Port Dalhousie that you cruise on; let's go out on that for your engagement portraits!

Ada and Chris did just that - made it entirely and completely unique. They are big into couple's yoga, and so they wanted to bring some of that fun into their session.

Niagara Wedding Professionals - Our Wedding - July 10th, 2010

In planning our own wedding over the past year and a half, we have really learned to appreciate not only all of the hard work and planning that our couples go through, but also the value of hiring wedding professionals whom we both trust and respect.

There are so many tiny little details to take care of for a wedding, and a lot of them can be very easily overlooked. It is also very easy to become overwhelmed when looking at everything all at once (I'll admit that it's happened a couple of times). When you hire professionals to take care of you on your wedding day that you know, trust, and have a great relationship with, all of the stress and worry disappears, and your perfect day can come to fruition.

We met up with Angelica (Simply Beautiful Decor) and Mandy (MyBouquet) this morning to go over all of the final details for floral/decor. To say that we are "giddy" is an understatement! Everything is coming together so perfectly, and we couldn't be happier.

Pauline even put together a bit of a sample bouquet/centerpiece for us. It isn't final, as they still have to add some of our soft-pink colors, but it gives you an idea. They even let us take it home with us to adore and love. Here are a few photographs of it that I took on our (new) dining room table.

Less than 4 weeks to go and we will be Mr. and Mrs. Caporicci. How exciting! We love going through this with our couples, and once we have gone through it, we will have such a better understanding and appreciation for our future couples.

I met up with Marni this afternoon for her prom portrait session. Marni is graduating from Eden High in St. Catharines, and has been given a full-scholarship to a University in the U.S. for her athletic abilities in tennis. Isn't that amazing?

We are photographing Steph and Adrian's wedding at the end of August, and they have really been looking forward to their engagement portraits for quite some time now. Steph and I have been e-mailing back and forth about ideas, props, thoughts, locations, and so on. Ultimately, they wanted simple, classic, with a vintage flair to it. And that's EXACTLY what we got for them!

They planned out all of their outfits, Steph had professional hair/make-up done, and they brought props (bike, balloons). It goes to show how incredible the images are when a session is planned out properly.

Chris and Krista: It's Devotion!

Saturday came together without a glitch. They were originally forecasting rain (even the morning of they were calling for a 90% chance), but Chris and the boys' rain dance paid off and we got clear skies all day long.

Chris and Krista's wedding was a beautiful celebration of two amazing people who are so incredibly in love. The day went smooth, so smooth in fact, that Al and I are almost duplicating their timelines for our wedding (which, by the way, is in less than 5 weeks ... ahh!). We had a TON of time for photos, and Chris and Krista left the creative freedom completely and entirely up to us. The only thing that they asked for/wanted was something non-traditional, grungy and urbany. They had picked out Bridge Street in Niagara Falls for their wedding portraits, and we couldn't have been happier!

The photographic industry in the Niagara Region is full of wonderful people and great photographers. I am proud to call many of Niagara's finest wedding and portrait photographers my friends.

A lot of people consider photographers competitors, when in fact, that couldn't be further from the truth. Every photographer has their own style, personality, and business philosophy, and they attract couples and clients who resonate with them. There are no two photographers who are identical in style, personality and business philosophy, and therefore, we all attract our own set of clients.

Therefore, we can all be friends! Woo hoo!

I founded and organize a large group of local professional wedding and portrait photographers that I called "We Niagara Photographers". It started off a few years ago with going out for coffee with a few of us, and now there are over 60 photographers in the "group", and we get together every month to socialize, hang out, shoot, learn, and have fun.

This past Friday, I organized our We Niagara Photographers get-together to first have breakfast at the lovely Cora's in Niagara Falls, and then out for a photo-shoot.

Here are a few of the images that I created while out on the photo-session, with Emma and Ally. Big thanks to the girls for coming out and modelling for us!

Bcap Lighting - What Makes Us Different?

I am asked often "What makes you different as a photographer", and what an amazing question that is!

When I teach photography and business to both aspiring photographers and other professional photographers, that is one of the first questions that I encourage them to think about; What makes you different as a photographer? Why should your clients hire you over someone else?

Without going into a long spiel (I'll save that for our meet-and-greets in the studio), I wanted to quickly SHOW one of the ways that we have excelled both for our couples and in the industry.

Three simple words - "Off-Camera Flash"

As a non-photographer, you may be wondering "What does that mean, Bryan?", so instead of going into tech-talk of Manual power, Radio Poppers and Lightstands, and confusing terms such as Aperture, Shutterspeed and ISO, I am going to simply show a few samples. From this point on, however, let's refer to this technique as "Bcap Lighting". It is a technique that I have taught several seminars on, simply because it is a technique that many photographers aspire to master.

Let's talk about the very simplest form of lighting - "On-Camera Flash". This means that there is a flash (light source) on the top of your camera, and you point it directly at your subject. Out-of-doors, this can be useful for filling in some harsh shadows, however I still don't like how it looks. Indoors, the use of on-camera flash is even more obvious, because it makes your subject light (with a flat, direct light), and it makes your background look dark. The result is a deer-in-headlights type of look, one that is neither flattering, creative, or emotive. It looks just like any image that anyone could take with any camera. Nothing creative or professional about it. This is why I stay away from it.

Then comes in "Bcap Lighting", where we use multiple flashes (sometimes as many as 5), all off of our cameras, strategically set up around the reception room to light it up and provide a more realistic and life-like ambience. This technique has taken us a while to master and fine-tune, but we are now confident that no matter where we are photographing, that we are able to "bring" amazing and beautiful light.

Check out this quick comparison of "On-Camera Flash" and "Bcap Lighting" that I intentionally did from Kim and Dave's wedding. The difference is very noticeable when you put the images side-by-side, and even though they are literally seconds apart, they tell a completely different story and evoke a completely different emotion. The "Bcap Lighting" almost makes the image jump off the page, it separates the subject from the background, and it gives it that life-like, 3-Dimensional look.

This is just an example of how we use "Bcap Lighting" indoors at a reception to create incredible imagery for our couples. We use a similar technique when photographing outdoors to create our trademark, award-winning dramatic photographs. For example, for the following few images, "Bcap Lighting" was used:

I hope that this might open some eyes and make you a little more aware of some of the advantages and benefits that we offer as wedding photographers. There are lots of other reasons to the original question of "What makes you different", but let's leave those for our meet-and-greets.

The O'Donnell Family: It's Fun!

One of the greatest things about being a professional photographer is the people that I have the opportunity to connect (or re-connect) with and spend time with. It is great because everyone, at some point, will need to hire a professional photographer, whether it be for a wedding, for family portraits, for maternity and newborn portraits, or for an event.

Years and years ago, in a previous life, I was a competitive swimmer, at Brock University. From about the age of 7 until I was 17 or 18, I swam, 7 to 8 times a week, at a provincial level. Sean was on the swim team with me, and we were good friends back in the day.

I had the chance to re-connect with Sean this past Tuesday when I hung out with him, his sister, Sara, and their Mom, Catherine, for a family portrait session.

Brides may recognize Catherine, as she is the owner and primary baker from Willow Cakes and Pastries. She is a phenomenal woman and a great pastry chef. If you haven't seen or tasted her goodies, you NEED to make a trip in to Niagara-on-the-Lake to do so!

Professional Photographers of Canada National Image Salon

I have previously mentioned my involvement with the Professional Photographers of Canada and the Professional Photographers of Ontario. Not only am I an active member, but I am also on the Board of Directors for the PPO Hamilton/Niagara branch.

Through the PPOC, I am ever-expanding my knowledge on photography, marketing, lighting, posing, branding, packaging, and so on. I am always striving to improve my skill-set and grow as a photographer so that I can better serve my clients.

I recently submitted 4 images for the Professional Photographers of Canada's National Image Salon, where professional photographers from around the nation submit their images for judging and competition. This year, I was told that there were over 1200 entries from Canada's top photographers, and I am proud to say that mine scored amount the best. Two of my four images were accepted and displayed in the National Salon, with a score of "Accepted" and "Merit".

I am privileged to have received this honour, and I am excited to continue to improve and grow my photography.

The 2010 National Image Competition of the Professional Photographers of Canada took place this week during Inspiration 2010, the Annual Convention of the PPOC, in Mont-Tremblant, QC.

Bryan Caporicci, LPPO a professional photographer from Fonthill, ON, had 2 images accepted and exhibited in the National Image Competition, judged prior to the Convention by a panel of Master Photographers from across Canada. Acceptance in the competition earns the maker Merits toward several Degrees offered to PPOC members, including the prestigious Craftsman of Photographic Arts and Master of Photographic Arts. It is also an indication of the makers’ ability to produce above average images for their clientele.

The competition features entries from across Canada in many different classes, including Portraiture, Wedding, Commercial, Digital and Specialist categories. Members also are able to enter Salons in their respective regions of Canada annually, increasing their opportunities to earn recognition for their skills as a PPOC member.

The Annual Convention also presents seminars by an international #!@$# of the world's foremost photographers, as well as a Trade Show where suppliers display the latest in equipment and services to the Professional Photographic industry.

Kim and Dave: It's Devotion!

The wedding season is now in full-swing, and we are photographing a wedding, every weekend, up until the weekend of our wedding in July. We are so fortunate to be able to spend time and photograph so many incredible couples.

Kim and Dave are no exception. We drove up to photograph their wedding in Brampton, this past Saturday, and had a really great day with them, their family and their friends.

Our favourite part about Kim and Dave's wedding was that everyone was so relaxed and so very obviously having a great time. From the salon to the ceremony to the reception, everyone was at ease and everyone was enjoying their day, stress-free. That is so important, because that is what the wedding day is about, isn't it?

I love this image that I captured at the salon. If you look closely, you can see the reflection of Kim's mom in the glass, on the left-hand side of the image.

This portrait is an incredible image and a wonderful moment. The first time that Kim's Grandma and Dave's Grandma met was at Kim and Dave's wedding. They were introduced to each other, and they immediately began hugging, congratulating each other. This is that moment.

You probably recognize Adam, on the left-hand side of this portrait, sitting on the railing. We photographed Ruth and Adam's wedding in 2008, and they were the ones who recommended us to Kim and Dave to photograph their wedding. We LOVE seeing our couples again!

Here are some fun moments throughout the reception - a great testimony as to why our couples appreciate the fact that we stay for part of the reception.

It is always refreshing to meet fellow, young, talented entrepreneurs making it in the big world. I met Jeff Komadoski through BNI (a local networking group). Jeff is a the owner of Urban Landscape and Design - a local landscaper and design company. He does incredible work, and has grown immensely over the past few years.

I met up with him last week to photograph one of his properties for a presentation he had to give. Now that his presentation has been given, I am happy to share a few of these images.

Jeff has completely built everything you see from the "ground up" (pun intended). It has been a work of love and he has done such a great job with it!

It is always nice to be appreciated and acknowledged for the hard work that you do. Being a young entrepreneur and creative, I have worked hard to get to where I am both in my business and in my personal life. I am proud of my accomplishments and am privileged to work with so many amazing people in my day-to-day life.

I have recently been honoured by the Business Link (a local business-to-business newspaper) with a "40 Under 40 Award". The 40 Under 40 Awards are an annual award ceremony that honour 40 outstanding business owners in the Niagara region, all under the age of 40. I am proud to stand up with 39 other individuals who have made a difference thorough their businesses in Niagara. Among the winners are a few of my very close friends and business colleagues:

Aneta and Ben: It's Love!

Aneta and Ben are getting married this September at Chateau des Charmmes. They are currently living in Dubai, so we figured that while they were down (they are friends of Taylor and Rod, and were at their wedding), we would get together for their engagement session.

Aneta's sister, Angelica, is the amazing decorator and owner of Simply Beautiful Decor, and I am so excited to be working with both her and Pauline from MyBouquet for Aneta and Ben's fall wedding. It's going to be stunning!

I don't think that words need to describe Aneta and Ben. They are gorgeous. They are fun. And they are totally a blast to hang out with.

Taylor and Rod: It's Devotion!

2010 is going to be our favourite year yet. Not only because we have 28 incredible weddings to photograph and couples to hang out with, but also because this is the year Al and I tye the knot. We are so excited, and the whole wedding-panning process has given us a brand-new appreciation for our couples.

This past weekend marked the kick-off of "Wedding Season". From now until our wedding in July, we are pretty much non-stop. We couldn't be more excited!

Taylor and Rod got married at Our Lady of the Scapular in Niagara Falls, and had their reception at Club Castropagnano. We had a ton of fun hanging out with them and their guests, and we even lucked out with the weather!

Karli and Stu: It's Devotion in Turks and Caicos, Part 3 - The Wedding

This blog post continues Monday and Tuesday's blog post, furthering the story of Karli and Stu's wedding in Turks and Caicos.

On Monday, I talked about the resort that we spent our 4 days at - the Beaches Resort in Turks and Caicos. On Tuesday, I talked about the rehearsal dinner and the good times that were had there.

Today, I introduce to you Karli and Stu's wedding day. It was an absolutely gorgeous day (and when I say gorgeous, I mean like 35 degrees gorgeous). I really love the destination wedding vibe - everyone was so relaxed, and all of the planning was taken care of by Patricia, the resorts Wedding Planner.

We started off in the early afternoon with Karli and the ladies at the Spa, getting their nails done. Here is Stu's Mom having a good laugh.

We met up with Karli later on, back at her room, to get some detail photographs and preparation portraits.

Doesn't she look absolutley stunning! Like a princess!

The ceremony was at 5:00pm, so the late-afternoon light was perfect, especially considering that the ceremony was behind held right next to the beach.

A couple of fun moments during the pre-ceremony

Stu was instructed to turn around and face the Ocean while Karli was walking towards the ceremony location so that he couldn't see her.

I just love the feel of this portrait of Stu that I captured as he was facing away from the ceremony. You can feel the anticipation and nerves.

As Karli walked up the aisle, there were a few tears shed, not only by Stu's mother. P.S. Only those were at the ceremony will get that joke ... hehe

Look at Chelsea stealing the camera, again! Isn't she beautiful!

The resort photographer set up a group shot of everybody, so I stood aside and scoped out some fun moments.

This blog posts is a continuation from yesterday's blog post. Yesterday, I introduced you to the Beaches Resort that we stayed at in Turks and Caicos for Karli and Stu's destination wedding.

Today, I'd like to share a few images from Karli and Stu's rehearsal dinner, taken place on the evening of our arrival to Turks and Caicos.

The rehearsal dinner took place under the stars, on top of a beautiful veranda looking over the entire French Village. The decorations were beautiful, the view was simply stunning, and the food was delicious.

I photographed Craig and Stacey's wedding two years ago, here in Niagara Falls, at the Sheraton Fallsview. Craig and Stacey's wedding was one of our favourite weddings for a number of reasons - they are an absolute hoot to hang out with, they are both ridiculously good looking, and their families and friends were so welcoming of us into their special day. When Craig's sister, Karli, got engaged, she contacted me to photograph her and Stu's engagement portraits.

We totally clicked at the engagement session and created some really amazing portraits for them. When they told us all about the destination wedding that they were planning, to Turks and Caicos, and asked us to be part of their wedding, we were honoured and excited. Because we already had a great relationship not only with Karli and Stu, but with Karli's family (from Craig and Stacey's wedding), we knew how incredible this wedding was going to be.

Unfortunately, Al wasn't able to come down to Turks and Caicos with me because she is in the middle of her teaching block. I asked a great friend of mine, and fellow photographer, Robert Nowell, to come down as an #!@$#/second shooter.

This blog post, and the 4 following blog posts will be of the story of Karli and Stu; their love, their friends, their families, and their wedding down in the beautiful Providenciale.

This first blog post sets the scene - these are some of my favourite images from in and around the beautiful Beaches Resort that we stayed at for our 4 days in Turks and Caicos.

The resort had 4 villages - Carribean Village, Italian Village, French Village and the Seaside Village. Each village had a whole slew of restaurants, pools, lounges, bars, and rooms. In total, I think that there were 6 or 7 pools and 16 restaurants. The place was absolutely breathtaking!

There were shaded lounges all over the place, with wicked-cool outdoor furniture like this. Talk about relaxing!

This is the Spa, where you can get pedicures, manicures, massages, hair/make-up, hot-stone treatments, and so on.

There were also fountains EVERYWHERE!

Here is the kids area and pool. You can walk inside this pirate ship and get 24-hour hot-dogs, french fries, ice cream, popsicles, and so on. Delish!

The Spring-time is such a beautiful time for portrait sessions. Not only is the scenery gorgeous, but we are finally able to get back out-of-doors for our sessions. After a cold winter, the Spring is a very-much welcomed!

Al and I met up with Michelle and Matt this past Sunday for their engagement portrait session. Michelle and Matt are getting married this August in Guelph.

We are so fortunate to become close with so many of our couples. Michelle and Matt are no exception - they are a bundle of fun, a real pleasure to hang out, and they are so in-love! They have been dating for an astonishing 10-years! Wowsers!

What is super cute is that their wedding date (August 13th) falls on their 11-year anniversary. Aww!

It truly is an honour to be welcomed into the lives of all of my couples and families. It is truly a pleasure to be allowed into some of the most intimate and special times in their lives.

I had the opportunity to meet Mr. Ryder yesterday - Alison and Kyle's new baby boy. He is only 7 days old, and cute as a bundle!

We had some difficulties getting him to sleep. He wanted to be "awake for all the good stuff like his Mom", as Alison put it. After some nice white-noise (thanks to my iPad), a bottle of milk, and some warmth, we finally got him to settle. Look how adorable he is!

I hope that you enjoy some of these images as much as I do.

Social Media Niagara - an interview with Adam White

Social Media (for example, Facebook, blogging, Twitter, YouTube, Blip.TV and LinkedIn) are a huge part of business today. The traditional forms of marketing are now being complemented, and, in some cases, replaced, with these new, instant-notification, real-time marketing/networking avenues. Businesses today who are participating in the online conversation are seeing huge advantages. Adam White, who's wedding I photographed last year, has created an amazing resource for small business owners to help them in the transition to social media, social networking, and the "now" economy. He has a website name Social Media Niagara, and he hosts monthly seminars on topics such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn. At the end of this month, I am co-teaching a seminar with him on the topic of "YouTube", so check back here soon for more information on that.

Meghan and Allen: It's Love!

I don't think that words can explain how much fun Al and I had hanging out with Meghan and Allen this past weekend for their engagement session!

Meghan and Allen met while away at University, at the University of Western Ontario. After 8 long years, and after several years of a long-distance relationship, they are finally tying the knot this June at Legends on the Niagara.

We are so honoured to be sharing with them their special day. They are a bundle of fun and oh-so-gorgeous! We hung out in Niagara-on-the-Lake for their engagement session. After countless laughs, great conversations and many amazing photographs later, here are some of our favourites.

We will be designing Allen and Meghan a gorgeous engagement book with their images, because we simply cannot narrow down their images to just two or three! I guess that that is a good problem to have, isn't it?

Awaken Workshops 2010 Wrap-Up

I have blogged before about all of the great workshops and seminars that I have had the pleasure of giving to other photographers. Together, Robert Nowell (my EnlightenMe business partner) and I have spoken and taught on:

- Embracing change
- The business of photography
- Wedding photography

I have a HUGE passion for teaching. For as long as I can remember, I have been involved with teaching in one way or another. I was a camp-counsellor for 4 years throughout high-school, I taught swim-lessons for 6 years throughout high-school and University and I have tutored, #!@$# and taught fellow classmates throughout my high-school and University career.

When I started my photography business, I knew that my love for teaching would eventually come full-circle and that I would have the opportunity to teach again. Now is that time, and I am totally loving it.

Most of the time, we speak and teach on the technical aspects of photography (lighting, posing, flash techniques, editing, retouching) and the technical aspects of business (marketing, advertising, branding, and so on). While I love teaching on these subjects, it was time for a change, and we had the opportunity to speak and teach one something totally different this past weekend.

Dave and Charlotte (Al and my wedding photographers) hosted the first-annual, two-day Awaken Workshops, this past weekend. The purpose was to awaken the spirits and inspire photographers. We had the room packed with over 100 new, experienced and aspiring photographers, to whom we were excited to share, motivate and inspire. Instead of taking our normal route of speaking and talking on the technical aspects of our business, we decided to take a completely different route.

Our program was entitled "The Lie of Busy" and we spoke about how personal growth and focusing on our lives is just as important (if not more important) as focusing on our business. We have found that photographers typically work around the clock, don't have business hours, don't have set policies, and often sacrifice family, personal time and friends for their businesses. While it is important to be flexible and accommodating for our clients, it is also important to have a personal life outside of our businesses.

We really enjoyed speaking on this topic, and we have plans to take this topic and project further to inspire more and more photographers. Keep your eyes peeled on this one!

Spring Family Portraits - The Disanto Family: It's Fun!

Spring means that the snow will melt, the grass will grow and the flowers will bloom. Spring means that the temperature will rise, the sun will stay out longer, and the parks will fill again with the laughter of children. Spring means that it's time to photograph out of doors again! Woo hoo!

I get excited, every year, for Spring, because it means that we are able to head back out of doors for our portrait sessions. As much as we do love photographing in our family's homes, in the studio, and so on, there really isn't anything that beats going to a beautiful park, on a beautiful day, and creating some beautiful images.

Paula + Brad: It's Love!

As a wedding and portrait photographer, I never know who I am going to meet, and where. Everyone, at some point, is in need of professional photography, whether it be a new family with their newborn, a family with kids growing up, or a newly engaged couple.

Al and I had our tasting and "Wedding Showcase" event at Club Roma (where we're getting married in July), where they put on a "faux wedding", with flowers, decorations, music, and the whole nine yards. It was great to see the room set up the way that it might be set up for our wedding, and it was even greater to be able to eat ALL the food that they have available. Yumm!

We were seated with another couple and their guests - Paula and Brad. After chit-chatting a little bit about our weddings, the plans, and so on, we made the connection that Paula had contacted me some time ago, inquiring about hiring me as their wedding photographer. Unfortunately, I wasn't available for their wedding date.

They decided that, even though I wasn't available for their wedding, they wanted to have some really nice engagement portraits done with us. This past weekend I met up with them (they're local Pelhamites, too) for a fun portrait session at Brad's parent's place (which is beautiful).

Alison + Kyle: It's Love!

We photographed Erin and Levi's beautiful wedding this past summer, and we really had a great time spending time with and getting to know their families and wedding party. We always are honoured to share such a special day with our couples.

When Levi's sister, Alison, found out that her and Kyle were expecting a little addition to their family, she called me and expressed interest in having us photograph her maternity portraits. Of course, we were more than delighted to!

One of my favourite things about portraiture is bringing in the environment to complement or contrast my subects. I love environmental portraiture, and our clients have told us that it is one of the main reasons that they hire us to do what we do.

Portraits of Pelham: Tim and Gaye Hartwick

I met up with Tim and Gaye Hartwick for their Portraits of Pelham session. What an amazing husband-and-wife team they are!

Tim and Gaye Hartwick are two of the amazing people behind Agape Valley and all of the wonderful events that take place there. They also own Personal Touch Home Improvements, CoverAll Siding, Windows and Aluminum Products and Hartwick Contracting (holy smokes, and I thought that I was busy!). They are two true givers in the community who care a great amount about Pelham's youth and the betterment of society.

Agape Valley is a 140 acre property located right here in Pelham. It is owned and managed by Niagara Shorthills Christian Ministries, an autonomous, evangelical, faith ministry. They host day camps in the summer time, pavilion rentals, school tours of the sugar bush, hayrides, and, of course, their infamous "Maple Syrup Days".

Amy + Rich: It's Love!

Our couples totally rule! We have the pleasure of hanging out with and photographing 25 amazing engaged couples, every year, and we are so lucky to have the opportunity to do so.

I photographed Rich's brother, Shawn, and his beautiful wife, Kristin, in 2008, and then I photographed Rich and Shawn's older brother, Dave, and his family, last year, as well. When Rich and Amy got engaged, they wanted to have us share their wedding day with them as well; we are so excited for their wedding coming up this Fall!

I hung out with them in Niagara-on-the-Lake, on Monday, for yet-another beautiful day in March! They wanted something a little bit more edgy and stylistic, and so we tried some new things, some new locations, and created some really amazing imagery for them.

Renee + Bobby: It's Love!

It's crazy to think that for at least half of our weddings this year, Al and I will be photographing the wedding as a married couple. As man and wife. Oh, that is so cool - I could definitely get used to this terminology!

In planning our own wedding, we've really discovered another level that we are able to relate to and connect with our couples. We share with them the excitement, the energy, the stress, and everything else that comes with planning a wedding. It's really amazing to get to hang out with such amazing couples who are at the same point in their lives that we are.

Renee and Bobby are tying the knot this coming August, and we are just so pumped to be photographing their wedding. Not only are we photographing their wedding, but we are providing our popular fusion coverage for them - a unique way to dive a little bit deeper into the amazing moments and memories from your wedding day.

I hung out with Renee and Bobby this past Sunday for their engagement session, in beautiful Niagara-on-the-Lake. Niagara is home to so many beautiful and amazing landscapes, architecture and locations, that you really can't go wrong. We were blessed with the most amazing weather that we could have asked for - not too cold (about 4 degrees celsius), lots of snow on the ground, and beautiful sun! Yum!

Typically, winter-time is the slower time of the year, here, at the studio. This year, it seems as if winter has flipped over on us, because we're busier than ever (hey, not that I'm complaining or anything)!

As you can tell from the activity here on the blog, we have been having a total hoot with our portrait sessions as of late, and we have been connecting and meeting some really amazing individuals.

We have also had prints, albums, and books coming in-and-out of the studio quicker than you can imagine! I thought that it would be neat to show you a few photographs of some of our recent books and albums. We have loads of samples of our products in our studio for you to come and look at, but , we understand that everyone can't make it in all of the time, and that's why we like to share some of these images on our blog.

The only problem with looking at the images of our products on our blog is that you can't touch, feel and smell them. These prints, frames,books and albums are the highest quality fine-art products available on the market today, and I will stand by that statement! We have searched, tirelessly, high-and-low, for the best possible products to be offering our clients. Why? Because our clients deserve the best, because they ARE the best!

Check out this framed print that Sue and Phil ordered from their portrait session back in the Fall time. What a nice way to display some of their favourite family portraits on their wall.

Here is an album that we designed for Courtney and Aaron. I love the deep, rich, mahogony leather that they chose for their cover. It is inspired from our "Jazz" collection of leathers, and it just feels oh-so-sexy to the touch. Mmm!

This is one of my favourite spreads in the album. I just love what these albums allow for, now, with full-page spreads, gutterless spines, and high-quality printing. Why would you EVER just want to have the disc of photos when you can have an amazing finished album like this?

There are literally dozens, wait, no, hundreds of album suppliers out there for professional photographers to choose from. Portraits of Pelham: Ron Kore

They say that via the six degrees of separation, we are all only six people away from every other person on this planet. It's pretty amazing when you really stop to think about it.

I think that in the small community of Pelham, however, that rule is more like one degree of separation, or two degrees at most.

Ron Kore and I met up on Saturday for his Portraits of Pelham session, and we discovered that he went to school with my Dad and my Uncle. What a small world!

Cassie: It's Fun!

I am happy to introduce you to my winter-semester co-op student, Cassandra! Cassie will be with us, here at the studio until the end of April, during the week from 9:00am - 3:00pm. Cassie is interested in pursuing a career as a professional photographer, and what better way to "test the waters" than to have a co-op with a professional photography studio!

We are very happy to have her join the team, and we're excited to have Cassie working on some fun new projects and ideas here at the studio. We're also hoping to have her as a "guest blogger", every week, to talk about her experiences here at the studio, what she's learning, and so on. Keep your eyes peeled!

I always like to take my co-op students out for a mini-portrait session at the beginning of their co-op so that they can get a feel for how I work, what it's like to be in front of the camera, and, ultimately, to create some really nice portraits of them for the blog!

Fonthill is home to many amazing individuals and some very successful businesses. Forestgreen Creations, founded by owner Todd Barber, is one of Fonthill's many success stories.

Craig + Debby: It's Love!

Dale Carnegie spoke, taught, and wrote on the topics of leadership, personal development, interpersonal skills, and living a worry-free life. Two of his most famous books that you have undoubtedly heard of (and maybe even read) are "How to Win Friends and Influence People" and "How to Stop Worrying and Start Living". If you haven't read them - I suggest you definitely check them out. They will literally change your life.

My good friend, Craig Riesebosch, is one of the founders (along with Neil Thornton and Steve Cardy) of the Dale Carnegie training in Niagara Falls. These three guys are doing some amazing things here in Niagara, helping business owners and individuals reach new heights in their businesses, improve their leadership skills and strengthen their relationships. These training projects occur over a 9-week period (meeting once per week) and it really is the only way to fast-track your personal and professional success.

"How do you know, Bryan?", you ask. Well, because I am currently enrolled in the Dale Carnegie training project, and while we are only 4 weeks in, I am already seeing a huge difference in my life and in my business. Craig, Neil and Steve have pushed me beyond my comfort zone and have really allowed me to expand my limits. It's amazing. You NEED to take it. Period.

Craig is also the president of our local BNI chapter (the one that I have mentioned many times before, here, on the blog). He is such an amazing leader and coach, and I am very lucky to know him.

Craig treated his wife, Debby, to a weekend-away, this past weekend, in Niagara-on-the-Lake. It was a weekend full of relaxing, eating, and great connecting. What a fabulous idea for Valentine's Day! Sometimes we get so busy in our lives and in our businesses, that we forget to connect and spend time with those we love.

One of the things that Craig wanted to do as part of his weekend-away with Debby, was have some really nice portraits created of the two of them. I was honoured when Craig asked me to be the photographer to create these portraits for them.

The images that follow are a glimpse into Craig and Debby's amazing relationship and silly antics. What I really wanted to capture in these photographs was the fun that Craig and Debby have together and the amazing bond that they share.

The Sherry Campbell Counselling Group

One of my favourite things about being a professional photographer is the people that I get to meet and spend time with. As a portrait and wedding photographer, the limits are pretty much endless as to the types of clients that I have. At the end of the day, everyone for one reason or another needs to have portraits created.

While a good majority of my work focuses around couples (engagement portraits, couple's portraits, and weddings), I do do a fair amount of other portraiture work, whether it be business portraits, family portraits, and so on. I personally just really just enjoy hanging out with amazing people, connecting, chatting, and creating some really nice portraits for them.

I met up with Sherry, Don, and Shari, of the Sherry Campbell Counselling Group, last week, to create some portraits for their upcoming re-branding and marketing material. The Sherry Campbell Counselling Group provides mental health counselling to individuals, couples, families and groups in Niagara, and I met Sherry through my local BNI group that I joined about 6 months ago.

Check out their website, at www.sherrycampbellcounsellinggroup.com. They're working on some really cool promotional products, brochures, and so on, so keep your eyes peeled for those, too!

Happy Valentine's Day to all of our couples, clients, and lovers out there! We are off enjoying our V-Day, and we hope that you are, too!

Annika + Zack: It's Love!

'Tis the season for love! I absolutely love photographing couples in the winter time. There's something about the rosy cheeks, the cuddling, and the contrast of the snow and dark coats and makes our winter "It's Love" portraits so magical. Love it!

As you know, we are running our amazing "It's Love Mini-Session" promotion right now, and on Monday, I hung out with Annika and Zack for their mini-session.

It's funny how things come about. I have been a frequent visitor of William's Coffee in Niagara Falls for quite a while now (ever since they opened a couple of years ago). Annika is a manager there, and every time that she is working, and I am there, we chat it up and talk about anything and everything. When I recently found out that she was engaged, I was all too excited for her and Zack! Unfortunately, I am already booked for her wedding date, but that didn't stop her from wanting to do an "It's Love" portrait session with Zack, so we thought that our mini-sessions were the perfect fit.

I have a ton more "It's Love Mini-Sessions" lined up for the coming weeks. If you haven't scheduled yours yet, what are you waiting for?!

Portraits of Pelham: Jim Ryan

One of the things that I hoped to discover and create through Portraits of Pelham is not only to document some of the influential members of the Pelham community, but also to recognize and capture some unique and very special individuals.

Jim Ryan is the owner of Ryan's Auto Body in Fonthill, located just down the hill on Highway 20. Jim is an extremely dedicated and hard working man, and runs a very honest and genuine business here in Pelham. His expertise has benefited hundreds of Pelhaminians (there's that word again) and his kindness has touched even more.

One of the reasons that I was lead to Jim, and why I wanted to create a portrait and tell his story wasn't necessarily for his great auto-body shop, but instead, for his fascinating collection of memorabilia.

Carla + Maurizio: It's Devotion!

2010 is an exciting year for us, here, at Bryan Caporicci Photography. We have 25 absolutely amazing couples to hang out with, photograph, and watch the formation of their new family. We also get to experience this, first hand, ourselves.

As many of you may know, Al and I are getting married, ourselves, this July 10th. As we put together all of the final pieces to our wedding details and plans, it is so exciting to see the days count down. We can totally understand the excitement and emotions that our couples go through. I think that it has really given us a better appreciation and understanding for our couples.

This past weekend marked the kick-off to our 2010 season with Carla and Maurizio's wedding. We spent the day in Halton Hills, and had a beautiful day for a winter wonderland wedding.

To Carla and Maurizio - enjoy your time in St. Lucia, and we're looking forward to getting together with you to go over your album and images once you get back!

I hope that you all enjoy these images ... I think that they really set the stage for an amazing 2010.
Here is Maurizio putting the boutonniere on his ring bearer, Paolo. Usually the guys have a difficult time putting on the flowers, but Maurizio passed this one with flying colours!

What a strapping lad!

Maurizio took a few minutes, in the rush of the preparations, to sit down and do what he enjoys most - play some classical guitar. Maurizio is a total guitar whiz, and he left all of us breathless with the beautiful tunes he was playing.

I just love the look of Maurizio's Nonna as he was putting the flowers on her. The look of pride. The look of happiness. The look of adoration. Moments like these are often not appreciated in the heat of the moment on the wedding day, but when you look back at your photographs, you can really slow down and appreciate them.

Over at Carla's parent's house, they had decorated the entrance way and the stairs to the nines. It was a beautiful setting for a great bridal gown detail shot.

Can you tell that Carla is excited and looking forward to what is ahead of her?

This is one of Carla's flower girls, enjoying a laugh with the rest of the girls. How adorable is this?

Carla was absolutely stunning in her dress. The ongoing theme throughout all of the decorations and floral arrangements was peacock feathers. When we were in her room creating some bridal portraits, I saw this masquerade mask with the peacock feathers on it and thought that it was so appropriate to create an image with it.

Carla was a total trooper and wanted to go outside for some winter-y portraits. It was cold, but it was definitel worth it!

What a beautiful family portrait - Mom and Dad, Carla, and her sister, Andrea. Lovely!

After the ceremony, Carla and Maurizio opted to have some quiet time, upstairs in the balcony, as opposed to having a receiving line right away. This gave them a few amazing moments to breath, enjoy each other's company, and soak in the moment.

We always encourage our couples to plan in some private time on the wedding day. As busy as the day goes, you really have to remember that it is about the two of you, and your love for each other. Having this moment or two in the balcony really allowed them to enjoy each other's company.

We went to the Rose Garden Theatre for the bridal party portraits, and we had a great time there. The lighting was just fantastic!

We went into the theatre itself for a few quick portraits. It was very dark in there, but, no fear, Bryan the flash-whisperer is here!

Love this one of the whole bridal party!

The reception was gorgeously decorated, and the theme of peacock feathers were carried out throughout all of the floral arrangements and favor boxes.

Here are a few of my favourite moments and images from the reception - some happy, some emotional, and some fun. They all make up what a wedding is all about, in my opinion.

Abby and Kate: It's Chic!

I get such a thrill out of photographing something different, something that I have never photographed before. I find that it gives me a real creative rush when I encounter something new and have to get artistic with it, while at the same time, adapting to the change of scenery.

This was exactly the case on Friday, when I got together with Abby and Kate for a portrait session for their new company. I have photographed both Abby and Kate before (Abby, more than once), and I always love getting together with clients again. Abby and Kate recently started up their own company, through which they teach dance and dance at bars and nightclubs. Here's the only caveat, though - they are "dancing" while suspended from straps, sometimes as high as 10 or 15 feet in the air.

I know - unreal, isn't it?We had the portrait session at the brand-new Vice Lounge, in Niagara Falls. I'd like to send out a quick, personal thank-you to Mike Drolias, one of the owners of Vice Lounge for allowing us the use of his space (and time) on Friday. It was the perfect location for this kind of session, and I am really looking forward to working with Mike and the guys on some future projects, as well.

I'd also like to thank Jaime and the lovely ladies at Textures Hair Salon, who did a bang-up job with Abby and Kate's hair and make-up. I love collaborating with such amazing and creative artists - they really help make the images go from great to amazing.

Sneak Peek - next week's "Portrait of Pelham"

Last week, I got together with Jim Ryan of Ryan's Auto-Body, here in Fonthill.

While I will be creating and posting Jim's "Portraits of Pelham" article early next week, I just couldn't help but share one image, because I simply love it so much.

I'm not going to into detail about Jim, but me just say that we can an amazing session, and I can't wait to share some more images with you!

Kelly: It's Fun!

Without sounding too cliche, I wanted to quickly talk about one of my New Years resolutions. This year, I want to increase my health, eat better, and get back into the gym and loose some weight. I realize that this is a common resolution, and often, it is one that falls by the wayside. But me? That is certainly not going to happen, because I have the best motivation in the world - I am getting married in less than 5 months, and I've got to fit into that tuxedo!

I am very happy to say that I have been sticking to my resolution for 5 weeks now, and everything is going fantastic; I have lost about 20 pounds so far, and am still going! Best of all, though, I am feeling better than every.

Through my research, talking with fitness trainers, and my own experience, I have put together a list of "rules" to follow for optimal weight loss, and I'll be blogging those sometime in the very new future to help those of you who have a similar resolution.

Like I said, one of the biggest things that I have noticed, in cooking all healthy, organic foods, eating lots of vegetables, and avoiding the junk food is that I am feeling a million times better.

This is why it was so interesting to hang out with Kelly and chatting with her about her passion - vegan cooking.

I photographed Ken and Kelly's wedding over two years ago, at the Prince of Whales in Niagara-on-the-Lake, and they recently contacted me, asking me to create some portraits of Kelly for their new website and restaurant. They're opening an all-organic, vegan restaurant in downtown Burlington.

Much like how my change of eating habits has changed the way that I look and feel, Kelly says that when she decided to go vegan, it completely changed her lifestyle, and she has never felt better.

We will be getting together again, soon, to photograph the restaurant once the renovations are done, the different plates that they offer, and to capture the grand opening, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled!
