Spring is in the air, and it's starting to get warmer! Woo hoo!
Spring is a GREAT time to start thinking about family portraits. The weather is getting nicer, and the leaves are starting to blossom, it's the perfect time of year for some fun, outdoor family portraits! It is surprising how many families don't have an updated family portrait. It really is a shame, because the kids will grow up, your hair may change color (AH!!), and the dynamics of your family change as everyone matures. I have found that most of the time, families don't like being photographed because they still think that "photo-shoots" are what they used to be - boring, blah, in front of an ugly backdrop, and VERY posed.
With me, though ... no way! I love photographing families, and my #1 goal is to make sure that everyone has a blast on our photo session. Because if you have a blast, and have fun, then you're going to enjoy the photos that much more! Oh yeah ... and I'll NEVER say "Say Cheese!" ... I promise!!
Here's a video that we put together from a family portrait session with Stacey and her family, so that you can see how much fun we really do have on our family portrait shoots ... I hope that you enjoy it!
I posted it on BcapTV (if you haven't checked out BcapTV ... go check 'er out! It's full of lots of great videos just like this one!), as well.

I just posted this awesome video-testimonial with Kristen and Shawn over at www.bcaptv.com. But, since I think that most of my blog subscribers are still reading this blog more than BcapTV, I thought that I would post it here as well. This is also a friendly reminder to click the "RSS" button at the top of BcapTV (and this blog, if you haven't already). It will allow you to subscribe to BcapTV and BcapBlog so that you are automatically notified whenever there is an update! Cool!
Shawn and Kristen had a winter-wonderland wedding, on November 22nd of 2008. We had an amazing time with them, their families and their wedding party on their big day.
We were lucky enough to have Shawn and Kristen over for a video-testimonial, so here she is! They chat about:
- How we were organized and accommodating throughout all of the planning
- The great experience that they had, from the engagement session to the wedding to the (soon) trash-the-dress session
- How Kristen was shy in front of the camera, at first, but opened up once she realized how fun and comfortable it was
- Their kick-butt engagement signing book (which almost every one of our couples are getting now - they ROCK!)
- Their wedding-day timeline, and how we were there for the entire day with them, from the salon with Kristen and her gals to the dancing at the reception
- The slideshow at their reception, and how it may have (oops) delayed the reception a little bit ... hehe
- The not-so-perfect weather (it was November!) and how we were still able to get amazing images indoors
- The natural and relaxed atmosphere we created for them and their wedding party
They also gave a great piece of advice - book vendors that you are totally comfortable, as they are responsible for making sure that everything on your wedding day runs smooth. They also talk about how you just need to relax and enjoy your big day - it only happens once!
So, without further adieu, here's Shawn and Kristen!

My kick-butt video guy, Dan, is taking Film and Media at Niagara College, and one of his projects this year was to put together a "feature" for Cogeco Cable.
Since Dan and I work so well together, and since he's got a ton of footage of me shooting already, he decided to do his feature on me as a wedding photographer.
This feature/video isn't necessarily promotional, or a commercial, at all, but it's more so about my philosophy - why I do what I do, and why I love being a photographer.
I really really love this video Dan put together, so I thought that I would share it. Dan does some amazing work, and he is so great to work with - he's going places, that's for sure!
The feature is going to be airing on Cogeco Cable (Channel 10) at some point in the next few weeks (no date set yet), so I'll keep you updated so that you can watch me from your living rooms (as if you don't already watch me enough!)
I have also featured the video for today's episode on BcapTV. If you haven't already checked out BcapTV, I really encourage you to do so!
I hope that you enjoy the feature, and please feel free to leave any comments in the "Comment" section below!

Do you all remember Ann and Tony from their fantastic wedding in Markham, Ontario, this past September? Well, they so graciously agreed to comon over for a video-testimonial for Al and I for a BcapTV Episode, so we hope that you all enjoy it!
Check out more about BcapTV over at http://www.bcaptv.com!
Ann and Tony (with special guest Lilly) talk about:
- Our quick correspondence
- Our first meeting/consultation
- The passion that I have for my work
- Their engagement session (we went skating) and how much fun we had
- The morning of the wedding, and how much fun we had (Ann played some wii and guitar hero - it was a blast!)
- Family portraits after the ceremony and how smooth everything went
- Their online photo gallery
- Their wedding album and how we went back-and-forth with the layout, and how all of their friends thought it was the best wedding album they had ever seen
They also gave a great piece of advice, and that was to be confident with all of your wedding vendors. Meet with them, get to know them, and be comfortable with them. They are responsible for making sure that the day runs smoothly, so be sure that you are confident in every one of them!
Thanks again, Ann and Tony for the sweet video-testimonial!
So, without further adieu, here's the video!

A project-of-love that Al and I are super excited is BcapTV - an online collection of video episodes of us talking about wedding and portrait photography.
Let's first explain how we arrived at the idea of BcapTV.
As you may know, we're planning our own wedding for 2010, and as a groom-and-bride-to-be, we've been doing a ton of reading up on every different aspect of our wedding day - etiquette, flowers, decorations, cakes, music, and so on. It seems that every vendor has a long brochure of information for us to read.
We thought "Man, all this reading is tiring! If only there was another way to get all this information. Maybe something a little bit more stimulating?!".
Now, from our perspective as wedding photographers, we find that the best way to answer questions and explain things to our couples is to do it in-person. At the same time, though, we get a ton of inquiries from couples asking a lot of the same question. We always think "it would be best to explain this is in person to them", but, there are only so many hours in the day!
So, the idea of BcapTV was born! We thought it would be really neat if we could have some videos online that answered a lot of these frequently asked questions. Although videos aren't quite as effective as explaining things in person, they sure are better than writing it in an e-mail!
Then we figured - why stop with just FAQ? Why not do more? So, we went ahead to expand the scope of BcapTV to include some videos of us talking about all of our great products - albums, prints, books, cards, etc. Then it grew from there, and we're now featuring video-testimonials from couples that we have photographed in the past, so you can get some insight into how their experience was. We're also featuring some video-testimonials and vendor-tours of other wedding vendors that we love. We'll also have a ton of behind-the-scenes videos of us in action, shooting weddings, engagement sessions, trash-the-dresses, and so on.
We hope that by watching the videos on BcapTV, you'll get some insight into wedding photography, and we hope to make things a little bit easier for you (or at the very least, decrease the amount of reading that you have to do!)
We post a couple of video episodes every week, so be sure to check back every now and then to get some more juice!
The website is http://www.bcaptv.com (bookmark it!), and there is also a link from the main website, http://www.bcapphoto.com.
Check out this intro video! For the rest of the videos ... we'll catch yeah over there!
