When we plan out our engagement and portrait sessions with our couples, we go over all of the details, their needs/wants and what they like/don't like. Here are our 5 steps to the perfect session:

1) Give us a good idea as to the "mood" that you would like for your images - Do you like romantic images in the tall grass? Nature? Waterfalls? Urban? Grunge?
2) Provide suggestions for locations, quoting our previous sessions (from our blog), and leave specifics up to our creative freedom
3) Plan your outfits from head-to-toe
4) Be okay with smooching and being all cute with your sweetheart in front of the camera
5) Be ready to LAUGH and have some fun!

Tammy and Alvin pass all of these "criteria" with flying colours. They had what we call a "textbook session".

1) They told us that they wanted "different, grungy" and then "tall long grass, beautiful sunset"
2) They suggested a location that they had seen on our blog, but then said "the rest is up to you"
3) They had 3 color-coordinating outfits planned, along with accessories. Tammy even did her toe-nails to match (she took the "head-to-toe" thing literally - perfect!).
4) and 5) I think that the following images show that they are both a) totally in love and b) a total blast to hang out with!

We just got back from Tammy and Alvin's amazing It's Love session, and I was just way too amped NOT to post a quick teaser. We got such a variety of images for them - some stylized fashion-inspired portraits, some fun, goofy moments and we finished off with some of our classical, romantic sunset portraits. I cannot wait to share some more of these.

When we sit down to plan our engagement sessions out with our couples, we always encourage them to make it "fun, personal and unique". It's one of the things that a lot of our couples really love that we do - incorporate THEM into their sessions.

Maybe you have a coffee shop that you love to go to together; let's go there for some fun engagement portraits! Maybe you have a dog that you "parent" together; let's bring him out with your engagement portraits! Maybe you have a boat in Port Dalhousie that you cruise on; let's go out on that for your engagement portraits!

Ada and Chris did just that - made it entirely and completely unique. They are big into couple's yoga, and so they wanted to bring some of that fun into their session.

Check out Steph and Adrian. This session is proof of the incredible imagery that we are able to achieve with planning, styling, props and, of course, a great looking couple!

We are photographing Steph and Adrian's wedding at the end of August, and they have really been looking forward to their engagement portraits for quite some time now. Steph and I have been e-mailing back and forth about ideas, props, thoughts, locations, and so on. Ultimately, they wanted simple, classic, with a vintage flair to it. And that's EXACTLY what we got for them!

They planned out all of their outfits, Steph had professional hair/make-up done, and they brought props (bike, balloons). It goes to show how incredible the images are when a session is planned out properly.
